Credit reports - what you need to know.

This is a great site for the UK market http://www.equifax.co.uk/

Many Americans are currently in debt and find it nearly impossible to get out. There are many credit counseling agencies out there but people must think twice before enlisting the help of one of Credit Reportthese agencies. Always be very careful when looking for credit help on the internet. There is a wide variety of scams out there that lure people in with unbelievable promises.

The first step most people take when trying to get out of debt or improve their credit rating is to get their hands on a copy of their credit report. This is a good idea but you should be careful about where you obtain credit reports. One of the most well-known websites offering credit reports is www.freecreditreport.com.  According to McAfee Site Advisor, this website is misleading and should be approached with caution.

Many people find that it is not their credit score but rather their spouse’s credit rating that is hurting them. If you need access to the credit reports of yourself and your spouse in order to work on your credit score, you would be wise to go through a reliable means to do so. If you or your spouse have been rejected for employment or financial assistance because of what your credit reports have to say, you have the option of contacting a credit reporting agency within a specified time limit to see the contents of the reports that lead to the rejection. Most of these rejection letters will contain this information as well as the contact information for an agency that can give you the specifics of your credit rating.

When figuring out a person’s credit score, there are usually three different agencies that provide credit reports which are all taken into account. You may need to get copies of all three in order to repair your rating. Equifax and Transunion are two such agencies that I am familiar with. Just make sure that you do not rely upon an unknown website to provide you with credit reports. Accessing these reports requires sensitive personal information that you only want in trusted hands.

Be wary of the websites that offer free credit reports. Most of these sites are not completely reliable and your personal information may be compromised. You may have to spend a small amount to get an agency to provide you with complete reports but getting accurate and secure results will be worth it. Once you have this important information, the road to fixing your credit rating will be shorter and less frustrating.
